INTERNATIONAL LEGAL JOBS: LEGAL CONSULTANT (HUMAN RIGHTS, UKRAINE), The European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC)
The European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) is seeking a remote legal consultant with expertise in human rights law to support EHRAC’s Ukraine programme.
Purpose: EHRAC is seeking a legal expert, with in-depth knowledge of European human rights law and UN mechanisms, to conduct joint strategic litigation with Ukrainian partners and deliver training or develop legal resources, as specified by EHRAC.

Title: Legal Consultant (Human Rights, Ukraine)
Contracting agency: European Human Rights Advocacy Centre, Middlesex University Higher Education Corporation.
Specific Tasks to be performed by the Consultant
The Consultant will:
- In collaboration with EHRAC lawyers, to provide legal support to partner lawyers in Ukraine on human rights cases, including drafting, and submitting applications to the European Court of Human Rights and UN mechanisms.
- Deliver or support the delivery of training programmes managed by EHRAC, as requested.
- Co-draft resources for Programme as required.
- At EHRAC’s request provide litigation support to partners in other target countries within EHRAC’s other Programmes
Period of performance: The Consultancy is expected to begin on 1st June 2023 and last for 11 months. There will be a review after 3 months to evaluate the ongoing performance of the Consultant.
Remuneration: EHRAC offers a daily rate of between £150 – £300 per day inclusive of all taxes depending on education, experience, skills etc. and anticipates that the work will require a regular commitment of 3-4 days per week between 1st June 2023 and 31st April 2024.
Qualification requirements for the Consultant
1. Required experience and skills
- Qualified lawyer
- Fluent English
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience of human rights cases or of taking cases to international mechanisms
- Excellent legal drafting skills
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with peers from EHRAC’s target region
- Commitment to upholding human rights
- The ability to meet deadlines and to prioritise multiple tasks
2. Desirable experience and skills
- Legal expertise of the Ukrainian context or other conflict contexts
- Experience litigating discrimination, conflict related abuses, freedom of expression
- Fluency in Ukrainian
- Ability to work in a trauma informed way and in sensitive and challenging contexts
